Wind and Solar energy?

Anyone who knows a lot about DIY home wind and Solar Energy facilities. I'm basically seeking ways of producing energy from the elements, whether wind or solar. The UK government promt try to use it, but from what I can see is very hard to find anything about it, the concession system is poor and often very difficult to progress or experience with it? Any ideas, pointers would be appreciated. Thanks
